Cycling as Metaphor for Life

I have cut out a picture of Lance, looking particularly brooding. There is a quote of his with the picture: "Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, an hour or a day, or a year. But eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. it I quit, however, it lasts forever".

I have always hated hills. Even in Top Ride, when we are doing pretendy hills, and I make sure even I make it hard on the dial, I bloody hate them. Almost as much as I hate a head wind. Maybe its the 5 extra kilos I am still carrying, maybe its fear of failure. I just hate them. A few weeks ago, I managed to make it up a little-ish hill in the same time as an Amazonian friend who has been cycling for years. Much pride on my part. However, it was a tiddler, one I have done a few dozen times, and… Continue
